Jadeja unstoppable! Take a bow. West Indies trying to take the attack, and that means Layne just sends it straight into the air. Siraj catches it comfortably.

 First wicket of the afternoon session! Leading edge from Athanaze, loops to Sundar, who reacts well to stick out his hands and make it stick.

Hit the helmet at some pace, that one. Athanaze a little sluggish to react, and his attempt to duck out of the way sees him duck right into the flight path of the bouncer. Alick Athanaze has been impressive in this innings, looking pretty put together even as wickets have been falling. Justin Greaves continues his strong showing from the first innings, and is looking pretty confident himself.

 Session starts with Jadeja acting as on-field captain in the skipper's temporary absence.

 Just a morning for the Windies to forget. Their top order has now collapsed royally in both innings. This time, it is Ravindra Jadeja who has done the damage with three wickets, helped out with some excellent catching. Siraj and Kuldeep also contributing.

Worked to perfection. Ball is still hard enough to find some bounce off the turf, and Campbell can't keep it down as he tries to turn it away onto the onside. Easy catch for Sudharsan at short leg.

 WHAT A CATCH! Short ball ploy early and it works. Chanderpaul tries to pull, gets it high on the bat, and Nitish has to cover a lot of ground at deep square. He shuttles to his left, puts in a dive, and gets both hands to it, grabbing on and holding on! Great fielding, and India are on the board.

Its the end of Day 2 of the first test in Ahmedabad. India have reached 448/5 after 128 overs. India scored 327 runs today while they lost 3 wickets today. Shubman Gill scored his 50 which KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja scoring their individual hundreds.

Dhruv Jurel gets it. He scores his maiden Test hundred for the country. He is delighted and who wouldn't be! This is a classic test match hundred consisting 12 fours and two sixes. IND 391/4 (116)

India have breached the 350-run mark with the lead now at 188. Total domination for India in this day so far. There is something for the bowlers and Windies bowlers have earned repect for it.

So the new ball taken now. 97 overs through. Johann Layne has only bowled 11 overs so far, and will want to bend his back and give a solid showing while the ball is fresh.

 Welcome back for this last period of play. India will look to keep going, and will likely want both Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar to get time in the middle as well. Would be surprising if we see a declaration tonight, but there's always some surprise up these sleeves.

A wicket in the first over of this session, but then nothing else for the Windies. Their body language says it all as they trudge off. Their bowling just hasn't had the firepower to bother India. Everything a little too easy for India at the moment. The energy has been sapped from West Indies – not what you want to see on day 2 of a series.

This is very quickly becoming a really good innings from Jurel. Picking the gaps behind square on the offside with perfection. Some really good batting, and India have reached 300. Lead up to 138.

Nice innings from Jurel, this. Looked comfortable against pace, and able to rotate against spinners as well. In Pant's absence, filling big boots, and making a very good case for himself.

 Field pushed out when Seales is bowling with these two batters still looking to attack. West Indies' tactics a little unclear – Seales is generating movement with the old ball, but the fields set are a touch defensive despite that.

Seales generating just a touch of reverse swing with the old ball, so West Indies just testing it out to see if they can get value from it with the batters looking to attack. Seales and Jurel sharing some light-spirited chatter between some deliveries. Expect Seales to take the second new ball the next time he comes in for an over, though.

Happy to go after the spinners and take calculated risks, these two. Hitting it so cleanly. Jurel connects sweetly and takes the score to 262/4, which means the lead is in triple digits. Just what India wanted despite Rahul's dismissal

Yep, the message is pretty clear now. Only 8 overs to the second new ball, but India will try to get value for their shots before that point. In the same over, hops out again, and clears long on again. Great hitting.

Disappointing wicket! Loss of focus for KL Rahul. Warrican on, and Rahul tries to push it through the covers. Never at the pitch of the ball, and just gives catching practice to the man there. A small window for the Windies here, but Jadeja next man in.

The lunch has been taken on the second day as India remain strong, having scored 218/3 in 67 overs in their first innings. They have taken a lead of 56 runs with KL Rahul hitting an incredible century and still unbeaten on 100 with Dhruv Jurel (14) at the other end.

KL Rahul completes his 11th Test century, and he has carried the momentum that he got in England. The incredible form with the bat continues as he takes India to a strong position ahead of lunch. This is his second Test hundred at home.

Wicket! Finally, a success for the West Indies after a long wait as Gill departs soon after completing his fifty. Roston Chase strikes as Gill hit that straight at the first slip while playing a reverse sweep. India are three down now in the first innings.

Exactly how West Indies didn't want to start! They need to be accurate but have already conceded 14 runs in the first 9 balls of the day. That lead is shrinking fast.

West Indies cricket, once such a powerhouse, boasting of some of the greatest legends of the game, is in the most anxious of doldrums. After their 27 all-out debacle vs Australia, a good start to this tour was essential – but they didn't get it.

The good news for those who hope to see the Windies back at the top of the game is that some of those greats, headlined by Clive Lloyd and Brian Lara, have come on board with CWI to try and diagnose and then solve the problems, with an official statement after day's play yesterday creating the outline for that change. Today, the Windies have to prove that for all the logistical change, they have the internal drive to support it.

West Indies innings only lasted for 44.1 overs as the first innings finishes on 162. Mohammed Siraj remains as pick among the bowlers with four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah takes three wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah has bowled well but not able to get the dividends in the form of wickets. Peirre and Greaves have put on a small stand to give Windies some stability.

Kuldeep Yadav strikes! A beautifully flighted delivery from the chinaman completely outfoxes Shai Hope, who misses it entirely as it clips the stumps, leaving West Indies reeling just before lunch. WI 90/5

Siraj strikes again! Mohammed Siraj claims his third wicket, leaving West Indies reeling at 42/4. Alick Athanaze departs after scoring 12 runs.

Bumrah strikes! Campbell departs after a close call, with Jurel taking a sharp catch off a thick edge. The on-field umpire's no-call is overturned after Gill reviews, and the third umpire gives it out. WI 20/2 in 6.1 ov.

Mohammed Siraj strikes early! Just four overs in, Siraj removes Tagenarine Chanderpaul, giving India their first wicket of the match in his second over.

"We have got four Tests (at home) before the end of the year and we would like to win all four. Preparation has been good. Everyone is in great touch, it is about getting into the red-ball mindset. It looks like a very good surface. Not disappointed with losing the toss, it has been under covers and there might be some help early on. We have two seamers - Bumrah and Siraj, three spinners - Jaddu Bhai, Washington and Kuldeep, and allrounder Nitish Reddy," Shubman Gill said.

"We are going to bat first. Looks a good one. There will be a bit of moisture, it is Test cricket and we will have to handle that first couple of hours. It is a young side, we want to come out and play some good cricket. We don't want to be batting last on this wicket as we know it will turn. We have gone with two seamers, two spinners and an allrounder," Roston Chase said.
