During the third ODI, he didn't just help the team win the match; he also achieved the milestone of scoring 20000 runs in international cricket. He needed just 27 runs to achieve this feat, and he did so by taking a single in Keshav Maharaj's over.

He became the 4th Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Virat Kohli, to have scored 20000 runs. He has now scored 20,048 runs after playing in 504 matches and has surpassed AB de Villiers in the list of highest run-scorers.

Apart from achieving this feat, he also surpassed David Warner's record of most sixes against South Africa across formats. Warner had played in 60 matches against the Proteas between 2009 and 2023 and had smashed 63 sixes, whereas Rohit too has hit as many sixes after playing in 58 matches.
