After the top order failed to produce a helping knock, India posted 161/9 courtesy of Suryakumar Yadav's gritty 84 against the USA.

Ishan Kishan is set to face Saurabh Netravalkar, the USA's left-arm pacer of Indian origin, as he takes on Abhishek Sharma at the crease. 

"We were looking to bat first. It looks good here. I played a lot of cricket here. There's a wind around as well, so I don't think there'll be a lot of dew later on. Of course there'll be a little bit of pressure. We can't run away from that fact, but then new tournament, we want to play the same way how we've been playing in the last one or two years and continue the same thing. It's live before the game starts and I'm sure when we start batting, it will be more wilder," said the Indian captain.

USA have won the toss and opted to bowl first against India at the Wankhede Stadium.

The opening ceremony has kicked off, and Rishab Sharma has come up with an impressive Sitar performance. ICC chairman Jay Shah and the former Indian captain Rohit Sharma is brining the trophy in the middle to officially kick off the tournament. 

The world no.1 T20I batter, Abhishek Sharma, has been in exceptional form with the bat ever since he made his debut for the national team. He has played 38 T20I matches for India so far and has scored 1297 runs at an average of 37.06 and a strike rate of 194.75. Abhishek has nine fifties and one century under his belt. 

"We have been playing some good brand of cricket from last 2-3 years, but I think we have changed our thinking. Earlier, we used to play bilateral (series) differently than the ICC tournaments, but now, be it an ICC event or (the) Asia Cup or even a bilateral (match), we try to play in the same manner."

Ishan Kishan is all but finalised as the other opener alongside Abhishek Sharma, as speculations continue to grow ahead of the IND vs USA match. Kishan will be picked ahead of Sanju Samson, who had a disappointing outing in the five-match series at home against New Zealand. 

Siraj is expected to replace Bumrah in the playing XI for the match against the USA. Siraj was not included in the T20 WC squad earlier, but replaced the injured Harshit Rana. 

In a major blow to team India, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will reportedly miss the opening game against the USA due to a viral fever. Bumrah is the second leading wicket-taker for India in the T20I format with 107 wickets to his name in 87 games at an average of 18.82. 

Ahead of the IND vs USA, an exciting opening ceremony will take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The ceremony will feature a musical performance by Rishab Sharma and percussionist Shivamani. ICC Chairman Jay Shah and former India captain Rohit Sharma, who led India to the title in 2024, will officially open the tournament alongside children representing all 20 participating teams.

Fans will also get to enjoy performances by singer Badshah and entertainer Nora Fatehi.
