Rishabh Pant Statement, IND vs SA Tests: Rishabh Pant came up with an emotional statement after India's Test series defeat against South Africa at home on Wednesday. South Africa defeated India by 408 runs in the second Test in Guwahati, completing a 2-0 whitewash on the back of a memorable performance.
While Rishabh Pant was the stand-in captain of India for the Guwahati Test, the team faced a new low in Test cricket, especially after the retirements of a few legendary players. This was India's only third clean-sweep Test series defeat at home. India also suffered their biggest-ever Test defeat by runs during the match in Guwahati. The last time India lost two Test series at home across two consecutive years was over four decades ago: vs West Indies (1983) and vs England (1984/85).

In a note shared on his X account, Rishabh Pant wrote: "There is no shying away from the fact that we didn't play good enough cricket over the last two weeks. As a team and as individuals, we always want to perform at the highest level and bring smiles to billions of Indians. Sorry, we couldn't live up to expectations this time, but sport teaches you to learn, adapt and grow - both as a team and as individuals."

"Representing India is the greatest honour of our lives. We know what this team is capable of, and we will work hard, regroup, refocus and reset to come back stronger and better as a team & individuals.
Thank you for your unwavering support and love!
Jai Hind. #RP17," Pant added.
On his return to action through the South Africa series after a long injury break, Pant himself disappointed with the bat as he managed to score just 49 runs in four innings at an average of 12.25.
On the fifth and final day of the second Test, India were bowled out for 140 runs in their second innings while chasing the mammoth target. India only managed to go past the 200-run mark once in the series against the Proteas. Notably, Pant took over the leadership duties after Shubman Gill was ruled out of the Guwahati Test due to a neck issue. India had lost the first Test in Kolkata by just 30 runs as they were bowled out for 93 runs while chasing the 124-run target.
In 19 Test matches played under head coach Gautam Gambhir, India have lost 10 matches. Apart from 7 wins, two matches ended in a draw.
