Jemimah Rodrigues pulls out of WBBL 2025: In an interesting turn of events, India's star batter Jemimah Rodrigues left the ongoing Women's Big Bash League 2025 midway as she was released by Brisbane Heat as per an official statement on Thursday. Jemimah is all set to miss the rest of the WBBL, having played just three initial games of the tournament.
Rodrigues returned to India for Smriti Mandhana's wedding. She had been present in Sangli with several other members of the national team for the wedding festivities. However, Rodrigues will now remain in India to support her teammate in her tough times. Recently, Mandhana's wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal was postponed after the star batter's father was hospitalised due to health issues. While the Heat have consented to Jemimah's absence for the final four games of the WBBL season, the franchise's CEO expressed disappointment that fans would not see more of the Indian star.

"It has obviously been a challenging time for Jemi, so while it is unfortunate that she will take no further part in the WBBL, we were more than willing to agree to her request to remain in India," Brisbane Heat CEO Terry Svenson said.

The Heat are still in search of their first win of the campaign after a heartbreaking last-ball defeat to the Adelaide Strikers earlier this week. Having lost all six of their WBBL 11 matches so far, Heat will now gear up for their Friday’s match against the Sydney Sixers at Adelaide Oval.
Notably, Jemimah was the only Indian player playing this season's WBB. She continued to be in action after India's historic and maiden Women's World Cup title win, with the 25-year-old playing a key role in the team's campaign. Her memorable century against Australia made way for India in the final before the hosts defeated South Africa to lift the title in Navi Mumbai.
