India women’s team seamer Kranti Gaud has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the T20 Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final on Sunday to lift the Asia Cup title for the eighth time.

However, Gaud was later found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

ICC's article relates to using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter after their dismissal during an international match.

It was a major setback for Kranti after Team India lifted the trophy and celebrations were in full swing.

Why Was Kranti Gaud Fined?

The incident occurred in the second half of the final when Gaud dismissed Sri Lanka opener Imesha Dulani. After taking the wicket, the right-arm seamer gestured towards the pavilion.

The ICC considered the gesture a breach of Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct. Gaud admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Supriya Rani Das, meaning no formal hearing was required.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Saleema Imtiaz and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Humaira Farah.

Since this was Kranti’s first offence in 24 months, one demerit point was added to her disciplinary record along with the 10 per cent match fee fine.

Level 1 breaches under the ICC Code of Conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and can result in a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

India Women Clinched 8th Asia Cup Trophy

India’s women’s team capped off a dominant Asia Cup campaign by defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final.

The victory saw India lift the continental title for a record-extending eighth time, underlining their dominance in the tournament.

With a strong all-round performance, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side comfortably outplayed Sri Lanka in the title clash.
