MS Dhoni captained the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025, but the franchise had a disappointing outing as they finished last in the absence of regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.

As soon as the tournament concluded, the speculations regarding Dhoni's IPL future started roaming around again. Making a prediction of Dhoni's decisions has always been a tough task, and the former India skipper once again has come up with an interesting response to a fan's request to continue playing at least for one more season. There is still uncertainty whether Dhoni will play in the IPL 2026.

While several reports claimed that CSK are looking for a high-profile wicketkeeper-batter in Sanju Samson for the next season, Dhoni's possible retirement could also be around the corner.

The 44-year-old, who has been going through a knee issue, made a public appearance recently where he was asked about his plans for the IPL 2026.

"I don't know whether I'll play or not. I have time to decide. I have some time until December, so I'll take another couple of months, and then finally, I can make my decision," said Dhoni.

As soon as he concluded with his answer, a fan from the crowd decided to take part in the conversation and shouted, 'You have to play, sir.' Dhoni gave a witty reply and pointed out issues with his knees, leaving the fans and internet guessing again whether he would play for CSK again.

"'Arre, ghutne me jo dard hota hai uska take care kaun karega (The pain I have in my knees, who will take care of that)?"

Notably, Dhoni underwent a knee surgery a few days after leading CSK to their fifth title in the IPL 2023. While the 43-year-old has played two seasons since then, he has been visibly struggling with his knee. He has been batting lower down the order, and his running between the wickets also hasn't been the same.
