Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has been granted a contract extension till June 2024 for next year's T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

As per the Cricbuzz report, further extension on Dravid's contract will be decided after the ICC's pinnacle event in the shortest format.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the contract extension for Dravid along with the supporting staff but did not mention their tenure in the release issued on Wednesday afternoon.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is slated to begin on June 2 and will culminate on June 30. Consequently, Dravid's extended tenure will run until the end of June. Similar terms are expected to apply to other support staff members for now, the report added.

Under Dravid's mentorship, India nearly missed their third ODI World Cup title after going down against Australia in the summit clash and ending their 10-match unbeaten streak with a heartbreak.

As per media reports, Dravid was not willing to continue his role but he was convinced by the board to continue till the next ICC tournament, to which he agreed.

After the much-needed brief break following the World Cup sorrow, Dravid's next assignment will be the all-format tour of South Africa, starting on December 10.

On Thursday, the selection committee will meet to finalise the squads for the South Africa series. The meeting is scheduled in Delhi, with Ajit Agarkar's committee expected to pick squads for the three formats -- T20Is, ODIs, and Tests.

India will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests against South Africa.
