Ranji Trophy 2025-26: Out-of-favour batter Prithvi Shaw departed for a four-ball duck on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy encounter between Maharashtra and Kerala on Wednesday. Kerala's MD Nidheesh got the prized wicket of Shaw by getting him caught in front of the stumps under seam-friendly conditions at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Nidheesh, sensing the conditions well, bowled full deliveries to set up Shaw for a ball that seamed in. The Kerala pacer got his tale up afterward as he also got rid of Siddesh Veer, who nicked off to the wicketkeeper, leaving Maharashtra at a precarious 0/2 after being put in to bat.
Notably, Thane-born Shaw made a shift from Mumbai to Maharashtra ahead of this domestic cricket season. After a No-Objection Certificate was issued to him in June earlier this year, Shaw represented Maharashtra in the Buchi Babu tournament.

In his career spanning 58 First-Class games, he has accumulated 4,556 runs at an impactful average of 46.02. However, he was axed from the Mumbai squad on the back of concerns about his fitness and discipline. His last appearance for Mumbai came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final in December 2024.
Overall, his record remains impressive across all formats. He has scored 3,399 List-A runs at a staggering average of 55.72 and a strike rate of 125.74. His exceptional ability to strike the balls in the T20 format has not been a secret to anyone. He possesses a strike rate of 151.54, but his average in the shortest format stands at 25.01 — highlighting both his explosive nature and his inconsistency.
Despite these statistics, the 25-year-old attracted no interest during the IPL 2025 mega auction, underscoring the significant gap between perception and potential.
