Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on Tuesday. Pacers Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara have been notable omissions in the squad due to injuries. The absence of star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga due to a thigh injury suffered during the Lanka Premier League is a major blow to the team's chances.

Binura Fernando and Pramod Madushan were a late addition to the squad to replace the injured players.

The return of Kusal Perera to the ODI squad after a two-year hiatus is noteworthy, though his recovery from flu is delaying his joining the squad.

With Dasun Shanaka leading the squad as captain and Kusal Mendis as vice-captain, the team will have to rely on other all-rounders like Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva to step up and contribute in various roles.

In the absence of Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana will take charge of the spin department, with support from Dunith Wellalage and Dushan Hemantha.

Sri Lanka's first match in the Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh is scheduled to take place in Pallekele on Thursday. Despite the challenges posed by the injuries, the team will need to work together and make the best use of the available resources to put up a competitive performance in the tournament.
