Indian star batter Suryakumar Yadav was reported to undergo sports hernia surgery in Germany soon. In the latest video shared by Suryakumar, he was seen practicing in the nets as part of his recovery journey.

After facing a setback and being ruled out of the T20I squad against Afghanistan due to the sports hernia, Yadav shared glimpses of his recovery and training on Instagram. In the video, he can be seen confidently playing cover drives during under-arm throwdowns, captioning it with "Yes 1 Baby steps.”

“The work is not finished yet, Vardhan," he added in the next story.

This display of resilience follows another Instagram post where Yadav is captured working out in the gym, sharing a light moment with his trainer. His injury was initially revealed after a mishap during the third T20I against South Africa on December 14, resulting in a Grade-II tear while fielding.

India are currently playing Afghanistan in a 3-match T20I series. In the first match, the home team beat Afghanistan comfortably by six-wickets. Suryakumar's absence forced the team management to slot in Shivam Dube in the middle-order who played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 60 runs.

The second match of the series will be played on January 14 in Indore and the final match will be on January 17 in Bengaluru. This will be India's last bilateral T20I series before the T20 World Cup in June.

Suryakumar was recently nominated for the ICC Men's T20 Cricketer of the Year 2023, showing his place in the team, especially in the shortest format of the game. In 2023, he amassed 733 runs from 17 innings, maintaining an impressive average of 48.86 and a striking strike rate of 155.95.
