Abhishek Sharma On The Verge Of Breaking Suryakumar Yadav’s World Record During India vs West Indies 2nd T20I

Abhishek Sharma will have a chance to reach another milestone when India take on the West Indies in the second T20I on Friday. The southpaw is just 53 runs away from completing 2,000 runs in T20I cricket. However, he could achieve something even bigger if he reaches the mark in quick time.

Abhishek has a chance to break a record held by Suryakumar Yadav, who became the fastest batter to score 2,000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced. Given Abhishek’s aggressive approach, the record could be under threat in Ranchi.

Abhishek Sharma Has SKY’s Record In Sight

Suryakumar completed 2,000 T20I runs in just 1,164 balls. Australia’s Aaron Finch is second on the list, having taken 1,283 balls to reach the milestone.

Abhishek has scored 1,947 runs off 997 balls in T20I cricket. He needs 53 more runs to reach the 2,000-run mark.

To break Suryakumar’s record, the India opener must score those runs within his next 166 balls, reaching the milestone in 1,163 deliveries or fewer. If he takes exactly 167 balls, he will equal SKY’s record instead.

Abhishek’s Aggressive Batting Gives Him A Chance

Abhishek’s batting style makes the record an exciting possibility. The opener has scored his 1,947 T20I runs at a strike rate of 195.29, hitting 135 sixes and three centuries along the way.

He has already shown how quickly he can score big runs. Earlier this year, Abhishek smashed a 30-ball century against Afghanistan, registering the fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter.

With his ability to find boundaries early, Abhishek has a real chance to challenge Suryakumar’s record if he gets going in Ranchi.

India leading 1-0 in five-match series

Abhishek scored 21 runs off just 10 balls in the series opener in Lucknow before being dismissed by Roston Chase. India went on to win by eight wickets, taking a 1-0 series lead.

Shreyas Iyer starred in the chase, scoring an unbeaten 102 off 43 deliveries to guide India to victory.
