T20 World Cup 2026: The BCB has dismissed claims that they have been given a January 21 deadline for their participation in the T20 World Cup in India. As per reports, the ICC, during their visit to Bangladesh, had warned the board to either agree to the schedule or else be replaced by Scotland, which is the next best team as per the rankings.
Both the BCB and ICC have been involved in a tussle about this issue for the last three weeks. The BCB doesn't want to send Bangladesh to India owing to security issues, as the BCCI told KKR to let go of Mustafizur Rahman before IPL 2026.
The ICC rejected any claims of Bangladesh facing any threat and revealed that they won't be changing the schedule or the venue with just a few days remaining for the mega event to begin. Amzad Hossain, who is the director of BCB, revealed that they had maintained their stance in the meeting.
“Last Saturday, January 17, an ICC representative came. A meeting was held with a delegation from our cricket board. There, we clearly conveyed our position regarding the World Cup participation and informed them that we are unable to play at the specified venue, and we requested an alternative venue. A detailed discussion took place with their representative. At that time, they told us that they would inform the ICC about these matters and later communicate the decision to us. However, they did not mention any specific date or timeline for when they would inform us, only that they would let us know the next date," Hossain told reporters.

Bangladesh will be playing their three group stage matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. As per reports, the BCB requested ICC to change their groups with Ireland, who will be playing their matches in Sri Lanka, but ICC rejected their request.
