WI vs NZ 1st Test: R Ashwin was seen lauding the West Indies' brilliant effort in the series opener against New Zealand. The Caribbean team showed grit and determination while chasing an enormous target of 531 runs in the fourth innings.
Post suffering a batting collapse, Shai Hope and Justin Greaves helped them bounce back by smashing tons as the visitors forced the match for a draw.
Ashwin took to his official X account and was seen lauding the West Indies and said that they are one team that can get all out for 37 and then win a Test match at the Gabba.
“This is a team that can get all out for 37, win a pink ball test match at the Gabba, chase down 320 odd for a win at Headingley, and now tracking down 530 with some solid character at Christchurch. #wivnz They are such a talented cricketing nation that can excite and disappoint fans in equal measures,” Ashwin wrote on his X account.

At the same time, Virender Sehwag too took to his X account and wrote, “What a valiant effort by the West Indies to save the Test match. Great character, grit, and resilience to play out 164 overs. Test cricket mein sahi ranneti chahiye.”
This match started with the visitors skittling the host out for 231 runs in the first innings, and while chasing, they got out for 167 runs. During the second innings, both Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra smashed tons each and helped the hosts declare at 466/8.
While chasing, the visitors suffered a batting collapse, but Hope and Greaves helped them bounce back. Hope smashed 140 runs off 234 balls, in which he had hit 15 fours and two sixes. At the same time, Greaves scored an unbeaten knock of 202 runs off 388 balls, in which he had hit 19 fours. At the same time, Kemar Roach scored a gritty knock of 58 runs off 233 balls and helped the visitors score 457/6.
