Electricity supply in Delhi will no longer be disrupted during repair work as a new state-of-the-art hotline maintenance van has beelaunched by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in Shalimar Bagh on Saturday. Purchased by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) for approximately Rs 1.5 crore, the van allows repair of power lines and equipment without interrupting electricity supply and is the first of its kind in the country.
During the event, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the underground cable network connecting the Shalimar Bagh Khosla Grid to the Netaji Subhash Place circuit. Under this Rs 2.8 crore project, 33 kV overhead conductors will be replaced with underground cables. An earlier underground wiring project costing Rs 8 crore has already made the BH East Block free of wires and poles, improving the area’s aesthetics.
CM Gupta announced further improvements, including the installation of new high-mast and pole lights in Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura, for Rs 97 lakh, and the conversion of approximately 44,000 streetlights to LED, ensuring the city is brightly lit before Diwali.
Other key announcements included:
- Education: A new PM Shri School in Haiderpur on 5,000 sq. yards of land, offering education up to Class XII with science and English-medium instruction.
- Water Supply: New underground reservoirs (UGRs), tube wells, and booster pumps in CA Block and BW Block, costing Rs 65 lakh.
- Yoga and Community Hall: Construction of a yoga centre in CA Block to begin before Navratri, and a new community hall in Haiderpur.
- Roads: Widening of the narrow road in Singalpur village to accommodate four vehicles simultaneously, connecting to the Ring Road.
- Munak Canal: Maintenance rights handed over to the Delhi government; proper ghats to be developed for Chhath Puja, canal to be cleaned before Chhath and Diwali. A new Chhath ghat will be built from Inderlok to Outer Ring Road with Rs 40 crore from the central government.
CM Rekha Gupta emphasised that these projects mark a “new beginning” for Shalimar Bagh and Delhi, with development in water, electricity, roads, education, and sanitation as top priorities. She added that with public cooperation, the vision of a developed Delhi and India can be realised.
The event was attended by regional MP Praveen Khandelwal, Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, and several local representatives and residents.
