Delhi: Kajal Chaudhary, a SWAT commando with Delhi Police's Special Cell, died at a hospital in Ghaziabad on Tuesday, January 27, five days after her husband, Ankur Chaudhary, a clerk in the Ministry of Defence, allegedly assaulted her by hitting her with a dumbbell and slamming her head against a door frame.
Speaking to News18, the deceased's family stated that Ankur later called them and allegedly invited them to “collect her body.” The deceased's family further alleged that Kajal was killed by her husband over dowry demands.
"They killed my sister for dowry. Ankur’s family used to ask us to give them a car, cash after the wedding, because their son had a government job," said Kajal’s brother, alleging that she had also been subjected to repeated physical assault by her husband.
Dowry Demand Behind Delhi Police Commando's Death?
According to the deceased's family, 27-year-old Kajal Chaudhary had completed her graduation in 2022. In college, she met Ankur Chaudhary, a resident of Ganaur, and their relationship was formalised after both families agreed to the marriage. Ahead of their wedding, Kajal was selected as a commando in Delhi's Police Special Cell in 2023. Ankur also secured a job in the Ministry of Defence.
Just 15 days into the marriage, Ankur allegedly began harassing Kajal, making repeated demands for a car and money and physically assaulting her. Due to the ongoing mental and physical abuse, Kajal moved to Delhi in 2024. However, her family alleged that Ankur continued make dowry demands and subjected her to repeated physical assaults.
"Ankur's family started passing comments regarding dowry almost immediately after the wedding. She then used to live at Ganaur (in Sonipat) with her in-laws. But due to such disputes, they (Ankur and Kajal) shifted to a flat in Mohan Garden," said Kajal’s brother Nikhil.
The situation took a tragic turn on January 22, when Ankur allegedly called Nikhil and invited him to “collect her body”. Kajal’s family rushed her to a nearby hospital and informed the police. Ankur was apprehended on the same night under charges of attempted murder at the Mohan Garden police station, News18 reported.
Kajal died at a hospital in Ghaziabad on Tuesday, January 27, five days after the incident. Her post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday, after which she was cremated with full state honours. A detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
