Delhi Encounter: In a joint operation by the Delhi Police Crime Branch and the Bihar Police, four gangsters, including 'Sigma Gang' Leader Ranjan Pathak were shot dead in the national capital in the wee hours of Thursday. The police encounter took place in the Rohini area, in which four most-wanted gangsters from Bihar were killed.
According to police authorities, at 2.20 am, a shootout broke out between 4 criminals and a joint team of Delhi police Crime Branch and Bihar Police on the Bahadur Shah Marg.

Ranjan Pathak, Bimlesh Mahto and Manish Pathak were from Sitamarhi, Bihar and Aman Thakur was a resident of Karwal Nagar, Delhi.
Plan To Affect Bihar Polls Foiled: Police
DCP Crime Branch Sanjeev Yadav said acting on specific intelligence inputs that the gang members were planning to carry out a major criminal activity ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, a joint team of Delhi Police Crime Branch and Bihar Police laid a trap in the area.
When the police team tried to intercept the suspects, they opened fire, he said, adding the police retaliated, leading to a brief but intense exchange of fire.

All four were wanted in several cases in Bihar, including multiple murders and armed robberies, Yadav stated. Senior officials from Delhi Police and Bihar Police visited the spot, and forensic and crime scene examination teams were called in, he added.
Further investigation is underway, said the DCP Crime Branch.
