Delhi-NCR Traffic: As the festive spirit ramps up ahead of Diwali, Delhi-NCR found itself choked with traffic on Friday evening. With celebrations just days away, the city’s roads were packed with vehicles, causing significant congestion across several key areas.
From the Moolchand flyover to Chanakyapuri and ITO, major intersections in the capital were clogged with long queues of cars, bringing movement to a near halt.

Arterial routes and busy market zones weren’t spared either. With shoppers out in large numbers and vehicles bumper-to-bumper, commuting turned into a frustrating experience. Videos shared by ANI showed endless rows of vehicles inching forward, with travel times stretched considerably.
To help manage the escalating situation, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a public advisory, urging residents to plan ahead and avoid non-essential travel during peak hours. They emphasized the need for early departures and the use of navigation tools to sidestep the worst-affected areas.
Officials also cited ongoing road repairs and damage at several intersections as factors worsening the congestion.
"Commuters are advised to plan their travel in advance, avoid peak-hour travel if possible, and follow traffic guidelines strictly to navigate the city safely during the Diwali rush," said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ajay Chaudhary, in a statement to PTI.
