Delhi Weather: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Jan 23 As Rain, Thunderstorms Loom; AQI Remains In Very Poor

Delhi Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for January 23, forecasting one or two spells of light rain. Owing to strong sunshine, the maximum temperature has climbed to 24 degrees Celsius, while the minimum has risen to 7 degrees Celsius. However, weather conditions are expected to change from January 23, even as Delhi’s air quality continues to remain in the ‘very poor’ category.

According to the forecast, Friday is likely to remain generally cloudy, with light rain possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, particularly during the early morning to forenoon hours. Another spell of very light to light rain may occur in the afternoon or evening, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain largely unchanged over the next 24 hours before rising by 4-5 degree celsius on January 23 and dropping by a similar margin thereafter.

Area-Wise AQI Today

The National Capital Region’s air quality showed a slight improvement, but it remained in the very poor category, with the AQI recorded at 312 at 7 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Greater Noida recorded an AQI of 354 (very poor), Noida 396 (very poor), Gurugram 402 (severe), Faridabad 277 (poor), Ghaziabad 436 (severe), and Muzaffarnagar 269 (poor).

Among Delhi stations, Anand Vihar recorded 379, Jahangirpuri 355, Wazirpur 336, Chandni Chowk 361, Nehru Nagar 381, Patparganj 338, Rohini 332, RK Puram 359, IGI Airport (T3) 274, IIT Delhi 280, Dwarka Sector-8 342, Narela 305, Punjabi Bagh 344, Shadipur 310, and ITO 331.

On Jan 22, maximum temperature is likely to be 24-26 and minimum 06-08 degree celsius , with westerly winds of 00-05 kmph in the morning, southeasterly winds of 10-15 kmph later, partly cloudy sky becoming generally cloudy towards evening/night, and shallow to moderate fog during morning hours.

On Jan 23, maximum temperature is expected to be 19-21 degree celsius and minimum 12-14 degree celsius, with southeasterly winds of 10-15 kmph and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph, generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of light rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning during early hours to forenoon, another spell of very light to light rain towards afternoon/evening, and shallow to moderate fog during morning hours.

On Jan 24, maximum temperature may remain around 19-21 and minimum 06-08 degree celsius , with southeasterly to northeasterly/northwesterly winds of 05-10 kmph, generally cloudy to partly cloudy sky, strong surface winds reaching 20-30 kmph, and shallow to moderate fog during morning hours.

On Jan 25, maximum temperature is likely to be 19-21 and minimum 05-07 degree celsius , with northwesterly winds of 05-10 kmph, partly cloudy sky, and shallow to moderate fog during morning hours.

On Jan 26, maximum temperature is expected to be 20-22 and minimum 06-08 degree celsius , with northwesterly to northerly winds of 00-10 kmph, partly cloudy sky, and shallow to moderate fog during morning hours.
