In a bid to ease traffic congestion and slash travel time to minutes, a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report has proposed an air taxi corridor for Delhi-NCR, connecting Gurugram, Connaught Place and the upcoming Jewar International Airport in Noida. The aim is to establish a high-speed aerial transport network that would reduce pressure on highways and metro lines.

If successful, the model is expected to be expanded to major cities, including Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai in the future.

Proposed Air Taxi Corridor For Delhi-NCR

A Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) report has proposed an air taxi corridor for the Delhi-NCR region linking Gurugram, Connaught Place and the upcoming Jewar International Airport in Noida, NDTV reported.

According to the report, the air taxis would operate from the rooftops of hospitals and commercial buildings. The rooftop vertiports offer a scalable, cost-effective solution for dense urban centres like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. These facilities will be developed atop tech parks, residential towers, and commercial complexes to bring aerial mobility directly to where people live and work, NDTV report added.

By utilising these rooftop vertiports, air taxis can reduce traffic congestion and slash travel times.

However, the service will follow a phased rollout, prioritising medical logistics, such as organ transport, before expanding into passenger services.

The report, released by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, outlines a phased approach: beginning with drone deliveries, followed by medical transport and air ambulances, before expanding into passenger services.

The CII has recommended that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) frame a dedicated regulatory for these operations, as current aviation rules do not permit regular commercial rooftop take-offs and landings. The report also calls for financial support through public institutions to fund vertiports, aircraft, and essential infrastructure.
