'Two Calls, Forced To Hear Her Screams': Delhi Cop's Brother Recounts Sister’s Final Moments

The brother of 27-year-old Delhi cop, Kajal Chaudhary, who was brutally murdered by her husband, has narrated her ordeal from the last call, saying that he was forced to hear her screams while her husband killed her.

Chaudhary was posted as a commando in the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT). She died on Tuesday at a hospital in Ghaziabad, five days after the assault by her husband, Ankur Chaudhary, using a metal dumbbell.

Apart from a brutal hit from a dumbbell, Ankur allegedly had her head smashed against the door frame. He had called her brother Nikhil and asked him to record it as evidence.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Ankur called Nikhil at around 10 PM on January 22. The call started with Ankur warning Nikhil with "Apni behen ko samjha le." (Control your sister), saying that she was arguing with him.

In an attempt to explain what had happened between the couple, Kajal took the phone and started talking, but Chaudhary got offended by some comments she made and allegedly snatched the phone from her.

Nikhil said that Ankur told him he would kill Kajal and asked him to record the conversation as evidence.

Nikhil said that she heard her screaming before the call disconnected. Narrating the chilling details of the conversation, Nikhil said that Kajal wouldn't tell much about what was happening between them, but that she started sharing her problems. According to Nikhil, it offended Ankur, who snatched the phone from her.

According to the aforementioned report, Nikhil received another call from Ankur, who asked him to collect her body from the hospital. He said, Ye mar gayi hai. Hospital aajao’ (She is dead. Come to the hospital). We rushed there with police personnel. He and his family were already present."

Nikhil recalled seeing her sister's condition and failing to contemplate who would do such a brutal act. "When I saw my sister… not even an enemy kills someone like this," he was quoted as saying.

Kajal's family has accused Ankur and his family of prolonged torture and harassment over dowry, including at the time of her pregnancy.

A case has been filed against them, and Ankur has been arrested. Ankur and Kajal have a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who is currently with his maternal grandparents.
