Interesting Facts About World Geography:  The Equator is an imaginary line that divides Earth into two parts, the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. As per the claim we are dealing with, most of the population, which 90% people on Earth, lives in the Northern Hemisphere. As impossible as it sounds, the claim is true. There are numerous factors responsible for this, from geographical and climatic to even historical. One of the major reasons why 90 per cent of the world's population lives in the Northern Hemisphere is due to Earth’s landmass.

Two-thirds of the Earth's land area is north of the equator, which includes most parts of Asia, Europe, and North America, along with large parts of Africa. On the other hand, the Southern Hemisphere is packed with oceans, with fewer but large landmasses like Australia, Antarctica, and parts of South America. Humans live on land, but due to less landmass in the Southern Hemisphere, most population is in the Northern Hemisphere.

Another reason is the climate. The climatic conditions of the Northern Hemisphere are more accurate for agriculture, trade, and settlement. The major river valleys, like the Nile, Indus, Yangtze, and Tigris-Euphrates, have witnessed the early civilisations.

Additionally, the rapid industrialisation and urbanisation have also increased population density in northern regions. Today, countries like China, India, the United States, and most of Europe contribute to most of the population in the world. While the Southern Hemisphere is sparsely populated, with vast regions uninhabited, like the deserts of Australia and the icy expanses of Antarctica.
