Interesting Facts About Golden Temple:  Not many people know, but the great Golden Temple is also known as the Sri Harmandir Sahib. The temple is one of the most spiritual places for Sikhs and is situated in Amritsar. The answer to the question of whether the Golden Temple is made of real gold is yes. Indeed, the magnificent temple is adorned with real gold, but not wholly. The temple is famous for its gold plating on the main dome and other parts of this magnificent temple.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh, known as the founder of the Sikh Empire, took the initiative to cover the temple's shrine with gold in 1830. At that time, the king used about 150-162 kilograms of gold, which was worth around Rs 65 lakhs at that time. The gold that was used at that time was 24-karat, which is much purer than the common 22-karat gold, mostly used in jewellery.
