The place receives around 12,000 mm of rain every year, according to the data from Jpl.nasa.gov. The fun fact about this wonderland place is its unique weather patterns. This climatic uniqueness is led by Southwest monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal that hit the Khasi Hills, which cause intense rain in the area, throughout the year.

Previously, the title of the wettest place in the world was held by neighbouring places of Cherrapunji and. One more highlight of the Mawsynram is that locals of the area make reed and bamboo coverings, which are locally known as ‘knups,’ during the rainy season to keep themselves dry.
