Atishi Marlena Education: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday proposed Atishi Marlena as the next Chief Minister of Delhi. Atishi would become the third woman to hold this position, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dixit. She would also be the second woman currently serving as a chief minister, after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Atishi is currently the only woman minister in the Delhi Cabinet and oversees the largest number of portfolios, including Finance, Water, Education, Public Works Department, Power, Revenue, Planning, Services, Law, Justice, Information and Publicity, and Vigilance. Moreover, she is a member of AAP's Political Affairs Committee (PAC). According to AAP, Atishi has been instrumental in "shaping the party’s policies in its early stages."

Delhi CM Atishi Marlena's Education Journey

She completed her schooling at Springdales School and then pursued a BA Hons in History at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, where she received the Sumitomo-St Stephen's Scholarship for academic excellence and the Rajpal Memorial Award for her overall contributions to college life.

She earned her Master’s in Arts in Ancient and Modern History from the University of Oxford, graduating in the 2001-2003 batch with a rank of 3. She was awarded the Radhakrishnan-Chevening Scholarship and, based on her academic performance, received the Rhodes Scholarship to pursue a Master’s in Educational Research from the University of Oxford.

Early Life and Background

Atishi was born on June 8, 1981, into a Punjabi and Rajput family. Her parents, Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi, were professors at Delhi University. Her middle name, "Marlena," is a portmanteau of Marx and Lenin, according to her party. In 2018, just before the national elections, she chose to stop using her surname and adopted "Atishi" as her name in daily life.
