Delhi Minister Atishi will take over as Chief Minister of the national capital as Arvind Kejriwal is expected to tender his resignation later today and will also meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at around 4.30 pm. The decision came following a legislative party meeting chaired by Kejriwal at his Delhi residence earlier today.

Atishi will be the third woman to hold the post of Delhi CM after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dixit. She will also be the second woman after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to hold the chief minister post at present.

Notably, Sushma Swaraj became the first woman chief minister of Delhi and served in office for 52 days in 1998 till she resigned. She was also the first woman chief minister from the BJP. Sheila Dixit was the longest-serving chief minister of Delhi as she served for 15 years beginning in 1998.

Who Is Atishi

43-year-old Atishi was born to Delhi University professors Vijay Kumar Singh and Tripta Wahi. She completed her schooling at Springdale School in New Delhi.

She went on to study history at St. Stephen’s College, a prestigious institution that honed her analytical skills. Her quest for knowledge took her to Oxford University, where she first earned a Master’s degree on a Chevening scholarship and later pursued a second Master’s as a Rhodes Scholar in Educational Research. 

Atishi’s Political Career

Atishi, who represents the Kalkaji constituency in Delhi, joined the AAP at the time of its inception. She was a key member of the Manifesto Drafting Committee of the party for the 2013 assembly election.

According to AAP, Atishi played a significant role in "shaping the party’s policies in the early stages of formation.” Currently, she holds key portfolios in the Kejriwal-led AAP government including Finance, Education, Public Works Department, Power, Revenue, Law, Planning, Services, Information and Publicity, and Vigilance.

Atishi Net Worth

According to Atishi’s affidavit, her assets are valued at Rs 1.41 crore with no listed liabilities. The gross total value of her assets, is Rs 1,20,12,824, while the calculated total of her assets stands at Rs 1,25,12,823.
