Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday proposed the name of Atishi for Delhi's next Chief Minister's post. This comes four days after Kejriwal walked out of Tihar Jail. He was arrested in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.
Atishi is one of the key faces of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Besides education, she also holds several portfolios including finance and PWD.
Atishi is currently the Minister of Education of Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday had informed about his resignation vowing to sit in the chief minister's chair till people gave him a "certificate of honesty".
Atishi's name was suggested by Arvind Kejriwal following a meeting of AAP MLAs.
Earlier, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, who was also a probable candidate for CM's face, had said on that "it doesn't matter who sits on the CM chair because the mandate was for Arvind Kejriwal.
"The public chose Arvind Kejriwal. He has said that he will not sit on the CM chair until the people ask again but the chair belongs to Arvind Kejriwal for these and the next 5 years... One of us will sit on the chair until the elections take place. It will be similar to the way Bharat ruled in the absence of Lord Ram," Bharadwaj had said.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal will meet Lt Governor V K Saxena at Raj Niwas at 4.30 pm to tender his resignation as chief minister, paving the way for Atishi's appointment as his successor.
"He will inform the LG about Atishi being the new leader of AAP's legislative party in the Delhi Assembly," a party leader said.
Arvind Kejriwal Resignation: Possible Reshuffle In Cabinet
After the resignation of Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal from the post of Chief Minister, there may be a reshuffle in the entire cabinet. Atishi is now the new chief. In such a situation, it is possible that two new ministers can also take oath. Notably, one post has been vacant since the resignation of Raj Kumar Anand.
