JEE Advance Admission 2025: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has once again emerged as the most preferred destination for JEE Advanced 2025 toppers, while IIT Delhi retained the second position.

According to the latest counselling data released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), 73 of the top 100 rankers in JEE Advanced 2025 chose IIT Bombay, a steady increase from 72 last year and 67 in 2023.

JEE Advanced 2025: IIT Bombay, Delhi Lead; Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur Follow

IIT Delhi, despite a slight drop, continues to retain its long-standing popularity. 19 of the top 100 rankers chose the Delhi campus in 2025, while 23 in 2024 and 22 in 2023. Over the past five years, the institute has consistently had 19 to 32 top scorers, making it the second most preferred IIT.

Despite being the top engineering institute in India, as per the NIRF rankings, IIT Madras has remained at the third spot among top students. This year, six students from the top 100 chose IIT Madras, the highest intake in the past five years, while only two students took admission in 2024.

Along with this, other IIT institutes that have shown significant interest include IIT Kharagpur (517 students in the top 5000 rank holders of JEE Advanced 2025), IIT Kanpur (448), IIT Roorkee (429), and IIT Hyderabad (222). Among the new IIT institutes, IIT BHU Varanasi ranked 258 in the top 5000, IIT Guwahati 305, and IIT Indore 109.

Year-Wise Preferences of Top 100 JEE Rankers:

Institute            2025      2024       2023     2022    2021     2020
IIT Bombay 73 72 67 68 62 58
IIT Delhi 19 23 22 28 32 29
IIT Madras 6 2 8 2 3 6

IIT Bombay has remained the top choice constant over the years. IIT Delhi holds second place, while IIT Madras shows fluctuations but recorded its highest intake in 2025.

Smaller IITs Face Challenge:

Admissions of top ranked students in smaller IITs have been limited. For instance, IIT Bhubaneswar (43), IIT Jodhpur (63), and IIT Ropar (120) saw a modest number of admissions, while institutes like IIT Jammu (4), IIT Goa (3), IIT Palakkad (1), IIT Dharwad (1), and IIT Bhilai (2) saw only single digit admissions in the top 5000.

The above statistics themselves reflect the keen interest of top students in JEE Advanced 2025 admissions at IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, while IIT Madras and a few other institutes are slowly moving in this direction. However, for the time being, the trend confirms the dominance of these two prominent IITs in shaping the selection of India’s most talented engineering candidates.
