Karnataka School Holiday: Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on October 7, 2025 (Tuesday) that all the government and aided schools will remain closed from October 8 to 18, 2025 amid a complete 'caste survey' in the state. Karnataka’s CM Siddaramaiah mentioned that all the government teachers and professors who are involved in the mid-term examination will be excluded from the educational survey.

About Caste Survey: The caste survey is conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes. This educational survey commenced on September 22, 2025 and was scheduled to conclude today but extended until October 12, 2025 in various parts of the state and October 24, 2025 in the Greater Bengaluru area.

In the rest of Karnataka, government and aided school timings were also modified, the timings were from 8 am to 1 pm between October 8 and 12 to allow teachers time for social and educational survey-related work. The department has altered the school timings when it reopens on October 8, 2025 earlier but now schools will remain closed.

The government had spent Rs 165.51 crore on an earlier Social and Educational Survey that was conducted in 2015, which was later discarded. The Chief Minister of Karnataka has also announced that the government will provide Rs 20 lakh compensation to three staff members who lost their lives during the survey work.

According to the reports, as many as 1,60,000 people, including 1,20,000 teachers, are involved in the ongoing social and educational survey. The students as well as parents are advised to stay in touch with the school department to stay updated with all the latest information reagrding school re-opening and caste survey.
