NEET UG Result 2024: Over 11,000 NEET-UG candidates scored zero or negative marks in this year's controversial medical entrance exam, according to the National Testing Agency's centre-wise results. The lowest score recorded was -180, from a centre in Bihar.

An analysis of the city and centre-wise results released by the NTA on Saturday reveals that over 2,250 candidates scored zero marks, while more than 9,400 candidates received negative scores.

Several candidates at a centre in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, have received scores below zero. Although multiple candidates from a few centres have scored zero, no particular clusters are evident, as the number of such candidates at each centre is relatively low.

According to officials, scoring zero marks in the exam doesn't necessarily indicate that the answer sheets were blank or that no questions were attempted.

"It is possible that the candidate attempted some questions right and some questions wrong which led to negative marking. In the NEET-UG, for every correct answer, four marks are awarded and for every incorrect answer, one mark is deducted. No marks are awarded or deducted for questions that are not attempted," they said.

On Saturday, the NTA released city- and centre-wise results for the medical entrance exam, which is currently scrutinised for alleged irregularities, including a paper leak. An analysis of the data shows that candidates who were reportedly advantaged by the paper leak and other irregularities did not perform well. However, some centres still have a high concentration of well-performing students.

The court will resume hearing arguments on July 22 regarding a series of petitions that seek the cancellation of the exam, a re-test, and a court-monitored investigation into the allegations of malpractice in the prestigious exam.
