UPSC Success Story: Ambitious people embark on a multi-year journey to pass the challenging Civil Services Exam administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). A wide range of hopefuls emerge as the quest for success takes shape; some choose the structured road of coaching, while others consign their goals to the disciplined world of self-study.
Rukmani Riar's journey to success in the Civil Services Exam administered by the Union Public Service Commission is evidence of her tenacity and fortitude. Riar, who is from Gurdaspur, Punjab, faced difficulties throughout her academic career. Riar struggled in school at first, even failing the sixth grade and encountering obstacles. She was concerned about disappointing her family and instructors. But instead of giving in to the pressure, she used her dread as motivation.
Rukmani Riar started her education at Gurdaspur and finished it at Dalhousie's Sacred Heart School. She attended Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar to earn a degree in social science after completing her 12th-grade year. Using this as a springboard, she continued her study by obtaining a Master's degree in social sciences from Mumbai's famed Tata Institute, where she also won a gold medal.
In addition to her work with the Planning Commission after graduation, Rukmani Riar completed worthwhile internships with renowned NGOs like Ashodaya in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai. These encounters sparked her interest in the civil service and inspired her to sit for the UPSC exams.
Rukmani Riar pursued success in the Civil Service Exam with unshakable tenacity and meticulous self-study. Notably, she embarked on this path without professional mentoring, which turned out to be a wise choice. Riar's first attempt at the UPSC exams resulted in a spectacular accomplishment: she was able to secure the second position nationally and fulfil her aspiration of becoming an IAS officer. This achievement was realized in 2011.
Rukmani Riar used a carefully thought-out technique to pass the challenging UPSC exam. She used a thorough study strategy that included going over NCERT textbooks from grades 6 through 12, which were important fundamental materials for her achievement. She also adopted a daily habit of reading newspapers and periodicals to increase her awareness and prepare for the exam's interview portion. Riar tried to reduce the possibility of mistakes on the real exam by taking many practice exams. She meticulously worked through old question papers to obtain a thorough understanding of the exam's subtleties.
The path of Rukmani Riar serves as a powerful illustration of the effectiveness of self-motivation and targeted planning. She not only overcame scholastic obstacles with tenacity and foresight, but she also accomplished a great feat in the field of civil services.
