On being asked about Assembly Elections in Maharashtra, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar says, "Lat time, Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections were held together. At that time, J&K was not a factor but this time there are 4 elections this year and 5th election immediately after this, which is to start with J&K, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Delhi. Depending on the requirement of forces, we have decided to conduct 2 elections together...The other factor is that there was heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and there are several festivals lined up too..."

Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases; voting on September 18th, September 25th, and October 1st. The counting of votes will take place on October 4.

Assembly Elections in Haryana will be held in one phase; voting on October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 4.

The Haryana Assembly Election 2024 will be held in a single phase on October 1, along with the third phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections. The results for the Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 will be declared on October 4. 

The Election Commission on Friday announced the election schedule for Jammu and Kashmir. Polling in the Union Territory will be held in three phases, with the polling for the first phase on September 18. The Polling for the second phase will be held on September 25, and the third phase on October 1. The result for the Jammu and Kasmir Assembly Elections will be declared on October 4.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar says, "There are a total of 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, of which 74 are general, SC-7 and ST-9. There will be a total of 87.09 lakh voters in Jammu and Kashmir, of which 44.46 lakh are males, 42.62 lakh are females, 3.71 lakh are first-time voters and 20.7 lakh are young voters. The Amarnath Yatra will end on August 19 and the final voter list will also be published on August 20."

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar says, "We recently visited Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana to take stock of the election preparation in these places. A great enthusiasm was seen among the people. They wanted to participate in the election process. People want elections to be conducted there as early as possible...The long queues at the polling booth in J&K during the Lok Sabha elections are proof that people not only want change but also want to raise their voice by becoming a part of that change. This glimpse of hope and democracy shows that the people want to change the picture. They want to write their own destiny. The people of Jammu and Kashmir chose ballot over bullet in Lok Sabha elections..."

It created a very strongly democratic surface for the entire democratic world, it was peaceful without any violence and the whole country celebrated the festival of elections. National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah says, "I always expected that elections will be held...It's been years since the state had a government...There should be people's representatives who will solve people's problems...Till now, the National Conference will contest elections alone. Rest, we don't know what decision will the other party take, will they contest the elections in alliance or not..."

On being asked if will he contest the elections he says, "Yes, I will contest the elections. He (Omar Abdullah) used to say that I will not contest the elections until Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory. When Jammu and Kashmir will return to statehood, he will contest the elections and I will give up my seat...I am hopeful that we will form the government...",

Jammu and Kashmir BJP has constituted an election committee for Jammu and Kashmir UT for the upcoming assembly elections. This Election Committee consists of Ravinder Raina, party's State President, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Member of Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma MP, Ghulam Ali Khatana, MP Rajya Sabha, Ashok Koul, General Secretary (organisation), Dr. Nirmal Singh, former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, former Deputy Chief Minister, Sunil Sharma, General Secretary, Adv. The Election Commission will begin its press conference at 3 pm. It is expected that the poll body will announce the dates for Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. 

The National Conference on Friday called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to thoroughly investigate the massive transfers in the police and civil administration and demanded immediate suspension of the implementation of such orders. National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah said the party suspects a "biased intent" on the part of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

"That the J&K administration had to call officers in the secretariat & police HQ to work on the Independence Day to order this massive reshuffle tells me they had absolutely NO CLUE that the ECI would be announcing poll dates today,” Abdullah said in a post on X.,

The Election Commission of India (ECI) began the countdown for the much-anticipated assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, with security concerns taking centre stage. The ECI officials held an extensive meeting with Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Wednesday to address the pressing issues surrounding election security.,

On EC's press conference for the announcement of the election schedule, JKNC vice president Omar Abdullah said that it is just speculation for now.

"We don't know that for sure (if dates will be announced for J&K too). That's speculation. We hope that they are announcing dates for J&K. But in the past also we have expected an announcement and one hasn't been forthcoming. J&K has been without an elected assembly since 2018. This is perhaps the longest period without an elected government in J&K. So, we hope that the ECI will use today's opportunity to announce early elections in J&K, in keeping with what the Supreme Court of India has said because this is as per their guideline, their directives..."

The administration in Jammu and Kashmir has recently transferred several officials, including deputy commissioners, shortly after the Election Commission instructed states preparing for elections to relocate officers working in their home districts.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the timeline for assembly elections on Friday afternoon, though it remains unclear which states will be included in this announcement. The commission aims to conduct assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before the Supreme Court's deadline of September 30.

As the Election Commission of India is set to announce the schedule for Assembly elections in various states, today, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said that EC might not declare dates of elections in Jharkhand.

"I think that in today's press conference, the dates for Jharkhand assembly elections will not be announced. Jharkhand assembly elections will be held later," Sarma said.

An EC invite to the media for a press conference around 3 pm did not mention the states for which the election schedule would be announced. Haryana, Maharashtra and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are due for elections later this year.
