The Congress party on Saturday criticised the BJP's manifesto for the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, labeling it as a 'copy-cat' and accused the BJP of making election guarantees similar to the ones they had previously called as 'freebies.'

The BJP unveiled its manifesto on Friday, promising various pledges, including financial assistance to married women, support for landless agricultural laborers, procurement of paddy at a price of Rs 3,100 per quintal, and affordable cooking gas cylinders for disadvantaged and poor families at Rs 500.

During a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh referred to the BJP's manifesto, and said, “Yesterday, the BJP came out with its manifesto (in Chhattisgarh). Those who used to criticise 'revdi' and our guarantees, the PM,…the manifesto that has been released by the BJP is a copy-cat manifesto."

"The LPG cylinder, paddy procurement prices, these are all Congress poll promises. When Rahul Gandhi ji had used the word guarantee then they (the BJP) had heavily criticised it and now they are talking about 'Modi ki guarantee'," Ramesh said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the BJP manifesto titled 'Modi's Guarantee for Chhattisgarh 2023' at a party event in Raipur.

Ramesh asserted that the BJP is unsettled in Chhattisgarh, and their defeat is ‘certain’. He also said that the BJP is targeting two OBC Chief Ministers in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan and emphasised the success of Congress welfare schemes in both states.

He expressed confidence that the people's mandate would be in favor of the Congress and accused the PM and his associates of resorting to tactics like defaming Congress leaders to distract the public. He underlined the need to continue the work accomplished by the Congress in the last five years, citing their guarantees.

The Congress Leader pointed out the BJP's use of the word 'guarantee,' suggesting that they are now adopting a term they had previously criticised. He remarked that the PM, known for U-turns, has transformed into a copy-cat and is now embracing what he once called 'revdis' or 'freebies' as his own guarantees.

"So the PM was known for U-turns but has now become a copy-cat.

The Chhattisgarh Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 7 and 17, with vote counting on December 3. The ruling Congress party is yet to release its election manifesto but has already announced 17 guarantees, including a farmer loan waiver.
