Defying the predictions of the survey agencies after the polls ended in the five states, the Congress is almost set to face a snub in Chhattisgarh. The BJP has crossed the 46-seat majority mark and is now leading on 55 seats in the state.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Bhagel was considered as Congress’ strongest bid to navigate the grand old party through an anti-incumbency wave but things seem to be turning otherwise, as the trends suggest.
Now, the big question arises what blew hot and cold in the minds of voters despite Bhagel’s predicted victory in the state.
Bhagel was the hot favourite in the state, who rolled out many welfare schemes to mobilised voters but failed to emerge out of the Mahadev Book betting app scam trap laid by the BJP days ahead of the polling.
The case was being built up for a longer time but was unleashed upon Bhagel at the very last moment. The case strengthened BJP’s campaign in Chhattisgarh and cornered Bhagel on the issue of corruption, who had so far managed to remain undaunted over any attack aimed at him.
On November 7 the ED said there was a link between Bhagel and Mahadev Book betting app case. The BJP in the backdrop of the poll campaign released a video in which an accused, Shubham Soni, claimed to have paid Rs 508 crore to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for his gambling business in Dubai.
The promoters of the app are reportedly from Chhattisgarh and have been accused of funding the state police and the bureaucrats in exchange for protection in promoting their betting business.

BJP used this as a tool to attack the Bhagel government during the poll campaign in the state. The case attained significant acclamation as many film stars were also summoned by the probe agency.
