Shujalpur Assembly Constituency lies in the Shajapur district and Malwa North region of Madhya Pradesh. It’s a rural seat that comes under the Dewas Lok Sabha seat. The seat is considered as BJP’s stronghold as the saffron party has been winning from here since 2003 polls.
In the 2018 Assembly elections, BJP’s Inder Singh Parmar won the seat after defeating Congress’ Ramveer Singh Sikarwar by a margin of 5,623 votes. In 2013 polls, Jaswantsingh Hada of the BJP defeated his nearest rival Congress candidate.
There are over 1,95,730 voters in the seat, which includes 1,01,902 male voters, and 93,825 female voters.
Voters from the Rajput and Parmar communities are in decisive numbers in the seat.
The Election Commission on October 9 blew the poll bugle by announcing the schedule of assembly elections in five states.
Madhya Pradesh, a Hindi heartland state, is also in the fray to elect its lawmakers. Both the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress have been pushing hard to win the key battle of the state.
Both parties have announced their candidates in all 230 seats. The saffron party has this time fielded four of its Union Ministers. The elections in MP will take place on November 17 in a single phase. The results of the polls will be announced on December 5.
