The Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana was suspended on Sunday after he met Congress candidates Revanth Reddy, violating the Model Code of Conduct. The Election Commission suspended DGP Anjani Kumar after he met Reddy in Hyderabad. A photo of Kumar and Reddy showed the top cop presenting a bouquet of flowers to the Congress leader at his residence.
The Telangana DGP visited Revanth Reddy along with State Police Nodal Officer Sanjay Jain and Nodal (Expenditure) officer Mahesh Bhagwat. The Election Commission has also asked the two officials to explain the circumstances under which they met Revanth Reddy.

The DGP reportedly faced action for opting to meet "one of the total 2290 candidates", who was also the star campaigner of Congress, when the counting process was still underway. The DGP, according to ANI sources, is expected to set an example through his personal impartial conduct.
"Any misconduct on the part of DGP Telangana not only sets a wrong precedent but sends incorrect signals to the field formations who are still in the process of conducting elections. Needless to add if subordinate police officers in the field formations start following the footsteps of their seniors to meet candidates abandoning their counting and security-related duties, the consequences can be disastrous of unimaginable proportions," EC sources said.
Reddy on Sunday led Congress to an unprecedented win in Telangana, wresting power from the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). Conceding defeat as Congress bagged majority seats in Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao tendered his resignation to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.
KCR submitted his resignation through an official, instead of visiting the Raj Bhavan himself. The BRS leader also quietly exited the official residence of the Chief Minister, Pragati Bhavan. He left the residence in two private car, without the convoy or route clearance. His exit as a commoner left people surprised. KCR is reported to have left for his farmhouse at Erravalli village in Medak district.
