Akshaye Khanna, one of the most underrated actors in Bollywood, gave the audience a jaw-dropping performance as the most cruel Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Chhaava. The actor truly stands tall with the powerful performance of Vicky Kaushal (who played the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj) in the latest historical action drama movie. Khanna without much dialogue delivery has expressed the cruelty of the Mughal emperor. His high-powered performance has won the hearts of the audience. Well, this is not the first time the actor has showcased his acting chops. The actor, who made his debut with the 1997 movie Himalay Putra, has seen several ups and downs in his career. So, here is a look at the popular movies that were hit but did not give him the expected recognition that he truly deserves. Read to know more about him.

Akshaye Khanna's Popular Movies And Downfall

The dimmed star has worked on hits like Dil Chahta Hai where he played the role of Siddharth Sinha, but could not garner fame as much as Aaamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan after the film. Khanna’s other notable films like Hungama, Taal, Hulchul, Border (1997) and LOC: Kargil to name a few, turned out to be cult movies after which he was established as a ‘good actor’. But he suddenly vanished from the showbiz for four years after the 2012 movie Gali Gali Chor Hai. He cited personal issues for the career break after he made his comeback with 2016 Dishoom. Since then, he has been trying to make space in the Hindi film industry all over again. Akshaye Khanna then became part of movies like Section 375, Drishyam 2 and The Accidental Prime Minister in certain gaps of releases until his hat-trick in Chhaava.

Reflecting on how his career was affected due to premature hair fall, Akshaye Khanna told Mid Day, “It started happening at such a young age and it was like a pianist losing his fingers. It almost felt like that, in those days. I mean, till you really come to terms with it and it starts bothering you less. You know, waking up in the morning, looking at the papers and saying, ‘I can’t read that, what’s written? I need glasses.’ It would affect you, right? What is happening to me? My eyes are not working?”

“You might be a sportsman, a cricketer or a footballer, and realise that you might need knee surgery. So it’s heartbreaking, you might lose a year or two years of your career. So, as I said, it’s like a pianist losing his fingers, because the way you look, as an actor, is very important. Especially this part (face). I mean, this part (body) you can still cover it up or whatever. At 19-20, it’s devastating. It’s heartbreaking and it can mentally kill you,” he added.
