Avatar 3: The eagerly anticipated James Cameron’s film has officially received its title, promising an exhilarating new chapter. The new installment is named 'Avatar: Fire and Ash.' The film's official Instagram page and Disney shared the news on Saturday, stating, "Just announced at #D23, our title for the next Avatar film: Avatar: Fire and Ash. Prepare to return to Pandora, hitting theaters on December 19, 2025." Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington are set to star in the film.

Director James Cameron revealed the title at the D23 Expo in California, with lead actors Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington present for the announcement. Avatar 3 will also include a star-studded cast featuring Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass, Joel David Moore, Edie Falco, and Dileep Rao.

Describing the film’s concept, Cameron told Variety, "You’ll see a lot more of Pandora that you never saw before. It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love."

Initially, both 'Avatar: The Way of Water' and 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' were conceived as a single film. However, as the writing evolved, James Cameron, along with co-writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, realised the story was too expansive for one movie and decided to split it into two parts. For the unversed, Avatar: The Way of Water, the second chapter in James Cameron’s acclaimed 2009 film Avatar, delved into the enchanting underwater realms of Pandora.

Reportedly, James Cameron is returning with the script penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña will reprise their roles, and the film is set to premiere on December 19, 2025.

Disney and 20th Century Studios have also announced plans for two more Avatar films: Avatar 4 on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2031. Meanwhile, Avatar (2009) remains the highest-grossing film of all time, while its sequel, 'Avatar: The Way of Water,' released in December 2022, stands as the third highest-grossing movie ever.
