Ed Sheeran’s impromptu street performance in Bengaluru turned into an unexpected moment of confusion when local police stopped him mid-song, despite his team having permission for the event.

The British singer-songwriter, currently on the India leg of his Mathematics Tour, took to Church Street for a surprise performance of Shape of You, much to the delight of fans. However, a police officer—reportedly unaware of Sheeran’s identity—interrupted and asked him to stop. When the singer continued playing, the officer unplugged his microphone, leaving both Sheeran and the gathered crowd in shock.

A video circulating on social media captures the moment Sheeran addresses the crowd, explaining, “We have the permission to be here, but this policeman is shutting it down.”

Sheeran, known for hits like Perfect and Thinking Out Loud, is making multiple stops across India for his tour. After kicking off in Pune, he performed in Hyderabad and Chennai before arriving in Bengaluru. His next stops include Shillong on February 12 and Delhi-NCR on February 15.

Despite the disruption, Sheeran continues to embrace Indian culture during his visit. He recently shared a video of himself learning to play the sitar with musician Megha Rawoot. The clip, where he tries his hand at Shape of You on the classical instrument, quickly gained traction among fans.
