BLACKPINK Jennie has finally unveiled the name for her solo fandom, RUBIES, sending BLINKs into a wave of excitement. The reveal came after a suspenseful 12-hour countdown on her official website, which ended on September 19, 2024, IST. The name 'RUBIES' is a nod to Jennie's English name, Jennie Ruby Jane, which she trademarked in August.

The new fandom name pays tribute to Jennie's unique identity and reflects her personal connection with her fans. Jennie, whose full name is Kim Jennie, first introduced her English name during her childhood in New Zealand. More recently, she adopted Jennie Ruby Jane for her acting debut in HBO’s The Idol, where she chose to use it instead of her stage name. Fans have eagerly embraced her English name across her social media platforms, especially on Instagram and YouTube.

In August, Jennie made headlines for securing the trademark rights to 'Jennie Ruby Jane' in South Korea. The registration process, which started in January 2023, was finally completed in August 2024, making Jennie the official owner of her English name. She has reportedly also applied for the trademark in the United States, further fueling speculation about her solo endeavours.

The countdown on Jennie’s website, which ended on September 19, has sparked conversations among fans about her highly anticipated solo comeback. Many BLINKs have been eagerly waiting for new music from the star, especially after her recent signing with Columbia Records in collaboration with her own label, ODD ATELIER. Jennie’s solo career has been a topic of much discussion, especially after her performance at the 2024 Met Gala, where she hinted at a new solo album.

However, not all netizens reacted positively to the news of Jennie's solo fandom name reveal. 'Ruby' happens to be the official fandom name of singer Kwon Eun-bi and Jennie's 'Rubies' seemed too similar to the singer's existing fandom name. Earlier BLACKPINK Lisa used the term 'Lilies' for her solo fandom name in an Instagram post. Several BLINKs thought that Jennie also followed Lisa's path and revealed her solo fandom name. However, after mixed reactions from fans, Odd Atelier officially in a statement to Xports News stated, "We only referred to fans arbitrarily on the news page where we deliver news to fans. We did not officially announce the fandom name."

Fans are buzzing with excitement, believing that new music might be closer than expected. Jennie’s previous solo track, You & Me, released in October 2023, became an instant hit, and her OST for The Idol, titled One of the Girls, further showcased her versatility as an artist. Jennie has asked fans to “stay tuned,” indicating that a major announcement is on the horizon.

Jennie’s transition to Columbia Records comes as part of her post-YG Entertainment journey. Although she continues to participate in BLACKPINK group activities with YG, her solo career will now be managed by her own label, ODD ATELIER. This move mirrors the steps taken by other BLACKPINK members, such as Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé, who have all ventured into their solo careers under separate labels.
