BLACKPINK Jennie is set to release her debut solo album Ruby in a few days. She has been teasing her fans with spoilers and new updates ahead of the song launch. Recently, she revealed how one of the tracks from the album is inspired by her personal experiences. In a conversation with Zane Lowe, who had the opportunity to hear the track titled Twin before its release, she shared that it was based on a past relationship of hers.
Jennie's song Twin amazed the host of the talk show, Zane, who recognized the emotions embedded in its lyrics after hearing it before its release. He stated, "The song is about someone, for sure. You aren’t writing that song cherry-picking emotions. That’s a letter."
Amused by this observation, Jennie expressed her surprise at his accuracy about the lines. She said, "Wow, you saw right through me."
Elaborating on the song's significance and how close it is to her heart, she stated, "That song is a very special song for me, maybe the most personal song. But by the time we were done with the song, I read it back and I was like, ‘Okay, people can resonate with this.’ There’s got to be someone that makes everyone feel this way."
She added that writing the song even helped her find closure for the relationship. "I think being truthful in that song gave me a conclusion, a clear thought on how I felt about that relationship. There you go, that says it all. I’m writing my letter to you." Jennie explained that another reason for putting her real feelings into the song was that "people can resonate with this."
Jennie’s solo album Ruby marks a significant turn in her music career as she steps out under her own label, Odd Atelier, which she founded in 2023 and collaborates with Columbia Records. The album includes 15 tracks and features artists like Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ, and Kali Uchis.
Apart from the buzz surrounding her latest album, Jennie made history as her latest solo single, ExtraL, debuted at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of March 8.
