BLACKPINK Jennie is gearing up for the release of her debut solo album Ruby on March 7, 2025. However, before the much-anticipated launch, the Kpop star has found herself at the center of an unexpected controversy. Desi BLINKs have pointed out striking similarities between her track Like Jennie and the Rani intro theme from the 2023 Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (RRKPK), sparking debates on social media.
The discussion gained momentum when netizens noticed familiar elements between Like Jennie and the Rani intro theme, composed by Pritam for Alia Bhatt’s character in RRKPK. Fans highlighted similarities in the instrumental beats, the hook and the overall melody, leading to speculation that Jennie’s track might have been influenced by the Bollywood number.
Social media was soon abuzz with reactions, with fans sharing their thoughts on the unexpected resemblance. Many took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice their opinions, with some accusing Jennie of borrowing from Bollywood’s musical landscape.
One user wrote, “Plagiarizing a Bollywood song is crazy work.” Another commented, “Pritam getting copied was not on my 2025 bingo card.” The humour didn’t stop there, as one fan joked, “She saw Pritam in every desi’s top 5 Spotify Wrapped and decided to steal his nachos.”

Others noted the irony of Pritam, who has often been accused of drawing inspiration from international music, now seemingly being the one copied. A user remarked, “From being labelled a copycat to being copied by international artists… what a remarkable turnaround for Pritam, the undisputed king of Bollywood music.”
Despite the growing online chatter, neither Jennie nor her team has responded to the allegations. Likewise, the makers of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani have remained silent on the matter. As fans await the full release of Like Jennie, many are eager to hear the track in its entirety to make their own judgments.
Jennie’s solo album Ruby marks a significant milestone in her career as she steps out under her own label, Odd Atelier, in collaboration with Columbia Records. The 15-track album is packed with high-profile collaborations, featuring artists like Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, Doechii, Dominic Fike, FKJ and Kali Uchis. The album will also include Mantra, a track Jennie released in October 2024.
