BLACKPINK Jisoo has proven her versatility once again with her latest Kdrama, Newtopia. The star revealed how she prepared for the physically demanding role, sharing insights during a press conference held on January 7 alongside co-star Park Jeong Min and director Yoon Sung Hyun.
Jisoo discussed her training process, saying, “At first, I couldn’t even do a forward roll properly. I would roll once and then stop to look around. But after going to action school regularly, I was able to do five consecutive forward rolls. Backward rolls were still difficult, though. Training at the action school helped me build stamina, which was a great help during the action scenes.”
Director Yoon praised her exceptional stamina, stating, “In the past, I considered Lee Je-hoon (seen in Kdrama Where Stars Land) the most physically fit actor, but Jisoo’s stamina surpasses his. The filming of Newtopia involved a lot of action, martial arts and various elements, including blood. It’s exhausting, but when I asked Jisoo if it was hard, she said it wasn’t difficult at all.”

Jisoo also opened up about her mindset while preparing for the role. “There might be pressure that comes with the attention, but I believe that pressure can be a good driving force. On set, I didn’t hesitate to ask questions, seek help, and prepare diligently. I hope many people show interest and share their honest feedback.”

Her co-star Park Jeong Min expressed admiration for her dedication, recounting a memorable moment on set: “When I saw Jisoo under the fairy lights, floating in the air, it felt like a magical moment. It was the first time I, along with all the staff, held our breath and watched the monitor in such anticipation.”

Jisoo shared her reasons for choosing Newtopia, explaining, “I’ve seen a lot of zombie movies. When I read the script, it seemed like a zombie drama of a new type was born because it featured not only zombie situations but also many colourful incidents. I chose it without hesitation because of Director Yoon Sung-hyun and actor Park Jeong-min.”
Jisoo also shared a heartfelt message with fans on Bubble, wishing them a happy new year and expressing her excitement for upcoming projects. “Some things I’ve been preparing got delayed a little, but they’ll soon come out. Please wait just a bit longer!”
She expressed gratitude for her BLACKPINK bandmates’ solo successes, saying, “When the members do well, people around me congratulate me. I felt even more that we are like family, and that made me work even harder on filming. I hope that Newtopia has good results so that the other members can be proud.”
BLINKs eagerly await Jisoo’s performance in Newtopia, which promises to showcase her growth as an actress and her ability to excel in action-packed roles. 2025 is actress Kim Jisoo's year with projects like The Prophet: Omniscient Reader (debut movie) and Boyfriend On Demand (alongside Seo In Guk).
