About Chamkila
The film depicts the life of Amar Singh Chamkila, a rising star in Punjab who tragically met his demise at the age of 27. Directed and co-produced by Imtiaz Ali, with music by the renowned A.R. Rahman, 'Chamkila' explores Amar Singh Chamkila's journey, focusing on his efforts to establish his identity in the Punjabi music industry. The film is releasing on OTT on April 12.
Amidst his challenges, he meets Amarjot, whose pivotal role accelerates Amar Singh Chamkila's rise as a prominent figure in Punjab's music scene. For those unfamiliar, Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot were fatally shot on March 8, 1988, upon their arrival to perform in Mehsampur, Punjab.
Diljit had previously discussed the challenges that both he and Parineeti faced during the making of the film. The actor-singer had said, "Even Parineeti, I did not have expectations from her because Amarjot’s part was tougher. Amarjot used to sing in a very high pitch. So, we have tried. I cannot sing like Chamkila and Parineeti cannot sing like Amarjot. We have only tried. Since in the film it is connected to the story, people might like it."
