Director Priyadarshan, who previously directed the big-budget film Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham featuring Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja and Keerthy Suresh, has opted for a smaller project as his next film. His thriller movie titled Corona Papers released in theatres on April 6.
The film, which has been written and produced by the director, features Shane Nigam, Shine Tom Chacko, Gayathrie Shankar, Jean Paul Lal, Sandhya Shetty, and Siddique in important roles. Apart from Siddique, all of these actors are collaborating with the experienced director for the first time in their careers.
Although very little is known about the storyline of Corona Papers, during a recent conversation with OTTplay, Priyadarshan had revealed that it is a crime thriller. The director stated that he had been considering making the movie for the past eight years, but he abandoned the idea because he was unable to come up with a twist that would keep the audience interested.
Last year, the filmmaker had stumbled upon a plot twist for the screenplay that he believed will keep the audience thoroughly engaged. He further stated that he is confident in the script and has taken a risk by producing it himself. Priyadarshan's previous production was Kanchivaram, directed by Prakash Raj, in 2008.
This movie is the first major Malayalam release in April. Although there was some uncertainty surrounding its release date, the creators later confirmed that the film will be released in theatres on April 6, a day prior to Good Friday.
However, Corona Papers will face tough competition at the box office from Kunchacko Boban's Enthada Saji, a feel-good entertainer, and Vijayaraghavan's Pookkaalam which are scheduled for release in theatres on Easter, April 8.
