Kangana Ranaut has encountered ongoing challenges with her upcoming film Emergency. Set against the backdrop of the Emergency period in India, the movie will explore the political dynamics of that era and highlight the significant role of the country’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. While Kangana has been eagerly anticipating the film’s release, delays have pushed its timeline further back. Initially slated for September 6, the film's future is now uncertain due to various controversies. Recently, the actress expressed her views on the matter, emphasising that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) should take responsibility for facilitating its timely release.

"The way I have made the film, I got no support from the film industry. I am the producer of the film along with other partners. Delay release is a loss for all… I think the censor board should take the responsibility to release this film at the earliest," Kangana Ranaut said.

The Bombay High Court has recently weighed in on the controversy surrounding the release of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency. The movie has encountered delays due to political issues and objections from certain Sikh groups, resulting in an ongoing legal conflict with the Central Board of Film Certification. A division bench consisting of Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla criticised the CBFC for not making a timely decision on the film's certification, expressing frustration over the board’s delays. The court emphasised that artistic freedom and freedom of expression should not be curtailed due to fears of public disorder.

Senior counsel Abhinav Chandrachud, representing the CBFC, mentioned that the film has been sent to the board's revising committee due to worries about possible public disorder. However, the court stressed that the CBFC should not use this as a justification for delaying the certification process and must reach a decision promptly.

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut, while speaking at an event, defended her film, stating, "We have the proper documents. There is nothing wrong with my film. But some people call Bhindranwale a saint, revolutionary or a leader. They threatened via pleas to ban my film." Also, the actress mentioned receiving threats for portraying controversial historical figures.
