Gadar 2 Director Addresses Prospect Of Surpassing Pathan's Records: With 'Gadar 2,' featuring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, nearing the impressive milestone of Rs 430 crore at the domestic box office following a successful two weeks in cinemas, the director of the film, Anil Sharma, has shared his thoughts on its remarkable success and the potential to surpass the all-time record set by 'Pathaan' for a Hindi film. Earlier this year, Shah Rukh Khan's movie, 'Pathaan,' garnered a substantial Rs 540 crore in India and achieved a global gross exceeding Rs 1,000 crore.
During a recent interview, Sharma discussed how he and the film's lead actor, Sunny Deol, chose not to be swayed by the buzz surrounding box office numbers. He explained that their intention with 'Gadar 2' was to create a lasting impact in the hearts of the audience, and they have effectively achieved that goal.
During a conversation with India.com, Sharma revealed that 'Gadar 2' won't be available on OTT platforms in the near future due to its ongoing successful run-in theatres. He stated, "People won't get to watch 'Gadar 2' on OTT anytime soon, as the film is still in the theatres, it will start streaming after 6 to 8 months. Till then, so many people would have already watched the film in theatres, and so many have done so already… We've managed to excite the audience, and that’s the biggest success for the film."
When questioned about the prospect of his film potentially surpassing Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan,' Sharma responded, "I don't believe in numbers, 'Pathaan' has done exceptionally well, even KGF (Chapter 2) did extremely well, and now, 'Gadar 2' is performing well. Let’s see how far it goes, how far the public takes it. It is the public's film.
We have already crossed Rs 400 crore, it will reach Rs 500 crore mark in the coming week and maybe the Rs 1,000 crore mark at some point. So, we are not looking at numbers alone, we are trying to make a place in people's hearts. People are watching it and loving it, that is enough for us. Whatever (box office) numbers have come out today are real, there is nothing fake."
'Gadar 2' hit theatres on August 11, coinciding with the release of Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2.' The movie achieved an opening day collection of Rs 40 crore, but its highest point came on Independence Day, raking in Rs 55 crore.
