Gulshan Devaiah Didn't Vibe With Ulajh Co-actor Janhvi Kapoor, Reveals 'That's Not Going To Happen...'

Gulshan Devaiah, who stars alongside Janhvi Kapoor in the upcoming action-thriller Ulajh, recently admitted that he didn't feel a strong connection with her on set. Despite their professional demeanour, they didn't develop a personal friendship. Also starring Roshan Mathew, Ulajh presents a compelling storyline. This suspenseful thriller features Janhvi in a challenging role, embroiled in dangerous diplomatic intrigue involving espionage and high-stakes action. Produced by Junglee Pictures and directed by Sudhanshu Saria, Ulajh guarantees an exhilarating cinematic journey that should not be overlooked.

Now, Gulshan admitted he didn't vibe with Janhvi on the set of Ulajh, stating they didn't connect or chat much during filming. According to Film Companion, Devaiah said, "We don't really vibe that way. It's not like we are sitting and chatting. We don't vibe at all actually." To this, Janhvi laughed and added, "This is the funniest thing you have said though." Continuing, Gulshan stressed, "Early on, it was like, 'Bro, you are not vibing.' It is not going to be like we are going to spend time, get to know somebody and use that familiarity in the performance."

"That's not going to happen. That happens in other places. With other actors, you vibe like that, not necessarily become friends, but you find something common or interesting about them or something to do together. But I never felt that was getting in the way of us doing the scenes. It didn't feel like 'Oh, I am not getting enough or something is lacking'," he added.

Talking about professional dynamic and direction, he said, "Whatever he expected was happening because she's a professional actor doing her job."

Janhvi recalled being advised on the Ulajh set to laugh more at Devaiah's jokes to ease any intimidation he might feel. She said, "I got a call on set once saying, 'You and Gulshan should go for coffee together because you aren't cracking jokes between the shots.' She was like, 'You should laugh at his jokes more otherwise he might feel intimidated, I don't know what's happening'."

The film, announced in May 2023, was shot across locations in India and London, starting its principal photography in June and concluding by September 2023. Scheduled for release on August 2, 2024, Ulajh centers on a young IFS officer from a lineage of patriots, caught in a perilous personal conspiracy while holding a pivotal post far from her homeland.
