The Wooga Squad is one of the most famous celebrity friend groups in South Korea, consisting of BTS V, Park Seo Joon, Park Hyung Sik, Choi Woo Shik and Peakboy. While fans have seen them together in several fun activities, many wonder how these stars initially connected.

V’s first encounter with the Wooga Squad began during the filming of the Kdrama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth in 2016. The cast of this period drama included V, Park Seo Joon, Park Hyung Sik and other notable actors like SHINee’s Minho. V, who was taking on his first acting role, shared in interviews that Park Seo Joon played a mentor-like role on set, helping him behind the scenes and even treating the cast to meals. Although V was initially intimidated by Park Seo Joon, the two grew close during the filming.

Park Hyung Sik, also part of the Hwarang cast, joined the budding friendship between V and Park Seo Joon. Park Hyung Sik, known for his roles in Strong Woman Bong-soon and as a member of the boy group Z, soon became a key figure in the close-knit group.

It was through Park Seo Joon that the trio expanded their circle. Park Seo Joon introduced V and Park Hyung Sik to his long-time friends, Choi Woo Shik and Peakboy. Choi Woo Shik, widely known for his role in Parasite and Our Beloved Summer, met Park Seo Joon on the set of the drama Shut Up Family in 2012. They developed a strong bond, and Choi Woo Shik even described how Park Seo Joon helped him navigate the acting world during their early days together.

Peakboy, a talented musician, has been friends with Park Seo Joon since their high school days. It was Park Seo Joon who introduced Peakboy to Choi Woo Shik, and the group of five eventually became inseparable. Their shared experiences in the entertainment industry and genuine friendships cemented their bond, leading them to form the Wooga Squad.
Since then, the Wooga Squad has gained a significant fan following. From supporting each other at events to enjoying vacations together, their friendship is admired by many. Disney+ even produced a spin-off series, In the SOOP: Friendcation, where fans got an inside look at the group’s camaraderie.

The origin of their name, Wooga, is short for the Korean phrase “Woori-ga gajok-inga?” which translates to “Are we family?” – a fitting title for a group whose friendship has flourished both on and off-screen.
