Independence Day is around the corner and people are eager to celebrate the occasion. This year Indians will be celebrating 78th Independence Day. Several top Bollywood stars played the role of soldiers onscreen that turned out to be cult. Not only the roles become famous but the movies also turned out to be blockbusters. From Sunny Deol To Shah Rukh Khan, Check out the list of actors who portrayed the role of soldiers onscreen. 

Sunny Deol 

The suprestar played the role of Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri in the 1997 movie Border. Deol’s role gained immense popularity and created a huge impact on his career. The movie showcased a small battalion of Indian soldiers fighting against a large Pakistani strike force. They defended their post all night until they got help from the Indian Air Force. JP Dutta's directorial stars Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Pooja Bhatt, Sharbani Mukherjee, Sudesh Berry and Tabu in significant roles. Released in 1997, the movie is streaming on Prime Video. The sequel of the iconic movie has been announced earlier this year. 


Shah Rukh Khan

The King Khan of Bollywood appeared as a soldier several times onscreen. He played a ‘fauji’ in movies like Veer Zaara, Main Hoon Na and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. In Yash Chopra’s directorial, he played the role of Veer Pratap Singh, who stayed in a Pakistan prison as a terrorist after he did not reveal the reason behind visiting the country. Shah Rukh portrayed the role of Major Ram Prasad Sharma in Main Hoon Na, who was sent on a mission by his senior. The star played the role of Samar Anand in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, whose personal life takes him into the path of serving the nation. 

Vicky Kaushal

The actor played the role of Major Vihan Singh Shergill in Uri: The Surgical Strike. The movie turned out to be a changing point in his career. In the film, his character leads an army battalion which fights against the enemy, who attacked in Uri. The movie stars Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina, Paresh Rawal, Kirti Kulhari and Swaroop Sampat in prominent roles. Released in 2019, the movie is currently streaming on Zee5. 

Sidharth Malhotra

The star played the role of real-life hero former Indian Army Captain Vikram Batra in Shershaah. The movie is based on the life of Vikram Batra and his contribution to India’s victory in the Kargil war. It features Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Manmeet Kaur, Munira Kudrati, Shiv Panditt, Shataf Figar and Nikitin Dheer in pivotal roles. Released in 2021, the war action drama is streaming on Prime Video. 

Hrithik Roshan

The superstar portrayed the role of  Karan Shergill in Lakshya. The movie delved into the life of a soldier, who left the Indian Army after seeing the difficult life of an army officer. But he returns to the army to make his girlfriend proud of him. It stars Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan, Sushant Singh, Boman Irani, Sharad Kapoor and Om Puri in key roles. Released in 2004, the movie is streaming on Netflix and Prime Video.
